What Is
Ultrasound Imaging?
Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that utilizes high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the body’s internal structures and organs. Unlike other imaging modalities, ultrasound does not involve any ionizing radiation, making it a safe and comfortable procedure for patients of all ages.
During an ultrasound examination, a hand-held device called a transducer is gently moved over the area of interest on the body. The transducer emits high-frequency sound waves that penetrate the skin and reflect off internal structures. These reflected sound waves are then detected by the transducer and converted into real-time visual images, which are displayed on a monitor for the sonographer and radiologist to analyze.
