The Rochester Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Pierre Charbel Atallah, M.D. to the medical staff.  Dr. Atallah grew up in Rochester and has lived, studied, and worked in Metro Detroit all of his life.  A Holy Family Regional School alumnus, he graduated from Brother Rice High School, completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Detroit, attended medical school at Wayne State University, and performed his residency and fellowship training at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.    

Dr. Atallah is a third generation Titan, graduating from the University of Detroit summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree and a minor concentration in philosophy and healthcare ethics.  At U of D he was the recipient of numerous awards including the Freshman Chemistry Award, awarded by the Chemical Rubber Company to the most outstanding freshman student for scholastic achievement in chemistry, the Engineering and Science Key Award for Academic Excellence awarded for obtaining a cumulative GPA above 3.80, and he graduated as the valedictorian of his college receiving the Biology Award, presented to the senior biology major with the highest cumulative grade point average in the College of Engineering and Science.  Actively involved in student life, he was a member of the  Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society honoring four percent of students in the top fifteen percent of their college on the basis of scholarship, loyalty, and service as well as Kappa Gamma Pi, the  National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society, awarded for exemplifying excellence in leadership, scholarship, faith, and service.

At Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Atallah excelled in his academic and clinical work receiving numerous commendations.  He published several articles in peer reviewed journals including, Internal Carotid Artery Aneurysm Discovered by Palpation of Asymmetric Pulses, published in the American Journal of Medicine and Vieussens' Ring with Congenitally Hypoplastic Left Coronary Arterial System published in the International Journal of Cardiology.  

Dr. Atallah continued his research efforts throughout his Internal Medicine training and was the sole author of, Significance of First-Degree Atrioventricular Block in Acute Endocarditis, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association- Internal Medicine and presented at the American College of Physicians Michigan Chapter Scientific Meeting.

After completing his training in Internal Medicine, Dr. Atallah pursued additional training in Cardiovascular Disease at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak and at the Rochester Medical Center and continued to publish and present his research at medical conferences across the United States.  His work was featured in prestigious academic journals including, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, and the International Journal of Cardiology.  Additionally, he presented at the local and national level, including at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in Chicago, Illinois, the American College of Cardiology 63rd Annual Scientific Session and Expo in Washington, D.C., and at the 23rd Annual Cardiovascular Conference sponsored by Beaumont Health System, Duke University School of Medicine, and the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Beaver Creek, Colorado.  

Dr. Atallah continues to actively research and publish, however, first and foremost he is a clinician.  He practices academic, evidence-based medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.  His practice scope includes internal medicine and preventive cardiology, particularly focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.  He treats each patient with dignity and respect and believes in a collaborative, team-based approach to health and well-being, a hallmark of the Rochester Medical Center philosophy for forty years.  He sees patients at both the Atallah Heart Center, and the Rochester Family Care Center and is now accepting new patients.    

Outside of the office Dr. Atallah enjoys spending time with his wife Elizabeth and their three daughters.  His interests include exercise, fishing, playing acoustic and electric guitar, landscaping, cooking, and when possible, travel.  He is currently completing a Master of Science degree in Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University and will be starting his Master of Business Administration coursework at the University of Notre Dame in Fall of 2016- Go IRISH!
